The picture above captures the physical pain of this 13 year old girl but fails to capture the agony in her heart.
She was brought into Abuja from Benin by the daughter of a long time neighbor of her parents. Her mother explained how excited they were about the news but little did she know that beyond her dreams of a good life for her daughter lay barbarity.
The teen was meted with villainy much to the contempt of all that beheld the scars all over her body by the whips of her guardian who accused her of pilfering and totally indifferent to the pain of the young girl.
After the intervention of WOTCLEF following the report received from the schoolthe teen attends, she was rescued, provided with health care and basic needs including shelter and counseling while efforts were made to contact her parents.
On Tuesday 4th March 2015, the teen was reunited with her mother, bursting into tears as she beheld her mother. Both mother and daughter could not control the tears dropping from their eyes as it gave room to release the burden in their hearts, an emotional scene that melted the hearts of many.
This is one in a million of such cases of abuse of our African practice of fostering and a resounding warning to those who still indulge in such practice.
Join/support WOTCLEF in the fight to combat child trafficking, abuse and labour so as to restore human dignity.
